TRANSFER TO FORT WILLIAM BY CAR
By car From North
If you are travelling south from
the West side of Scotland by Car then you will eventually connect with the
A82 south which will take you directly into Fort William. From
North central Scotland, Passing Aviemore you will see signs for the A86 at
Kingussie which will then connect you into the A82 at Spean Bridge, again
taking you directly into Fort William. From the North east area or East area you
could head to Perth and take the A85 road to Crainlarich. From Crainlarich on the A85
you will again connect onto the A82 North at Tyndrum which again will
transfer you straight into Fort William.
By Car From the South
Travelling from the south, follow the A74 / M74
and take the M73 at junction 4 northwards. Form there you will see
the sign for Glasgow M8, Take the M8 West which will then lead you into
Glasgow City. Continure through Glasgow onj the M8 heading for Glasgow
Airport & Greenock. From here you will see signs for the Erskine
Bridge. Once over the Erskine Bridge you will join the A82 for Loch
Lomond and Crianlarich. Continue on the A82 to Crianlarich and from here
you will stay on the A82 passing Tyndrum which again will transfer you
straight into Fort William.

Glasgow International Airport 100 miles south of Fort William

From Glasgow Airport, just head for
the Signs of M8 West, Erskine Bridge, Greenock. Approx 4 miles west
you will take the Erskine Bridge and the A82 to Loch Lomond and carrying
north alongside Loch Lomond you will enter Crianlarich. From here you will
then see signs for Fort William on the A82 continue on the A82 north
passing Tyndrum, Bridge of Orchy, Rannoch Moor, Glencoe, Ballachulish and
then straight into Fort William.
Journey time is approx 2 hours 30 minutes

By car From Prestwick Airport ( 122 Miles
from Glasgow International Airport )
From Prestwick Airport take the A79
north which will connect you to the A78. Take the A78 to the A77
North ( 3 munite drive ) and from there take the A77 northward towards
Glasgow. Travelling towards Glasgow Take the offramp at junction 1for the
B768, Ibrox. From here take the A761 which is the Paisley Road West
where you will then come to the west onramp for Glasgow Airport which is
approx 4 miles away. From Glasgow Airport, just head for
the Signs of M8 West, Erskine Bridge, Greenock. Approx 4 miles west
you will take the Erskine Bridge and the A82 to Loch Lomond and carrying
north alongside Loch Lomond you will enter Crianlarich. From here you will
then see signs for Fort William on the A82 continue on the A82 north

Below are 2 main routes from Edinburgh to Fort William.
Scenic Route:
From Edinburgh, head onto the M9
north for Stirling, Passing Stirling on ther M9 you will then take the A84
junction 10 cut off. From here you will travel through Doune,
Callander and this will take you onto the A85 at Lochearnhead.
Continue from Lochearnhead on the A85 to Crianlarich
From here you will then see signs for Fort William on the A82 continue on
the A82 north passing Tyndrum, Bridge of Orchy, Rannoch Moor, Glencoe,
Ballachulish and then straight into Fort William.
Journey time is approx 3 hour 45 minutes.
p.s. This is an amazing journey through some fantastic lovely
towns and villages but I do suggest that this drive is not for the Novice
as there are quite a few small roads and tight turns to consider.
if not to sure I suggest you take the more straight forward route below.
Straight Forward Route:
From Edinburgh, head west towards Glasgow
on the M8 and once through the M8 at the City you will see signs for the
Glasgow Airport, (not to be mistaken for Prestwick Airport), and Greenock. Approx 13 miles west from Glasgow City
on the M8 you will
take the Erskine Bridge and the A82 to Loch Lomond and carrying north
alongside Loch Lomond you will enter Crianlarich. From here you will then
see signs for Fort William on the A82 continue on the A82 north passing
Tyndrum, Bridge of Orchy, Rannoch Moor, Glencoe, Ballachulish and then
straight into Fort William.
Journey time is approx 3 hour 45 minutes.

Trains for Fort William leave Glasgow Queen
Street
Station in Glasgow.

By Bus or Coach
There are express coach links between
Glasgow and Fort William and Edinburgh Airport and Fort William. Buses can be caught at Buchanan Bus Station

By Ferry
Fort William is located at the
North of Loch Linne just as the Loch turns into Loch Eil. There is no
direct Ferry transport into Fort William but there is a ferry crossing at
Corran which is basically used to save you time travelling into Ardmurchan
from the south. The main carrier is Calmac Ferries.
Travelling to Fort William is a fantastic drive from south as you will
pass Loch Lomond, Crianlarich, Tyndrum, bridge of Orchy, Rannoch Morr,
Glencoe, Ballaculish and the Corran Ferry with views out into Ardgour and
Ardmurchan.
