Oban
Tourist information:
With a population of over 8,000, Oban is known at the 'Gateway to The Isles'.
Upon entering Oban Town, the road from the East mainland is a small windy road
which gives you a fantastic view of the Town, sometimes when I travel on this
road I can help but think that it can be a bit intimidating to the Tourist who
is venturing to Oban in their own Hire car as the windy road is quite tight..
Once entering the Town you will be hit upon its one way system which upon
passing you will see a line after line of B&B's and Guest house strewed on
either side of the road. Then you will be in amongst the tourist
shops offering tourist memobrilla but as you pass by this tight tenement section
then the Oban Harbour will open up right upon you. As you
travel along this road Oban bay will be on your right hand side, you will the
see a couple of major Oban hotels you can then travel to the main roundabout in
the Town and turning off at 11.00 o clock you will once again be in a one way
system which is then pointing to The Oban ferry. One thing I will state it
is always advisable to book your car onto the ferry well in advance.
The Picturesque Oban port has access to beautiful places and Towns in the West Coast of
Scotland including the Isle of Mull, Coll, Tiree, Colonsay, Islay,
Lismore, Kerrera, Barra and South Uist. Other attractions include
McCaigs Tower which was started in 1895 and finished in 1902. We have the Oban
Distillery which can be found in the heart of the town also Pulpit Hill which
gives you a fantastic view over the whole Oban Town and area.
Outwith the Town centre we have Dunoillie Castle And Dunstaffnaig castle.
Oban is 90 miles from Glasgow Airport, by Car this journey
should take approx 2 hours 20 minutes. |
