Thornhill on the A702 Main Street of Penpont. Scaurbridge House is a former manse dating from 1840. It is situated in a lovely garden on the
edge of the village of Penpont in Upper Nithsdale, between the Dumfries-shire
towns of Thornhill and Moniaive.

is an early version of a tower House.
5 miles north of Penpont is Drumlanrig Castle which is owned by the Duke of Buccleuch. This Baroque country House does
not really have any military function,
even though two earlier defensive castles had stood on the site. It was built
between 1684 and 1691 for the 1st Duke of Queensberry
